Gym attendance app to replace the register
Mark who came today in one tap and see each member's month on a calendar. A gym attendance app that replaces the paper attendance register.
A gym attendance app should replace the register without adding a second job. In Varzish Mate you open today's list, tap the names of people who came, and each visit lands on that member's record. Each member also has a calendar that shows their month at a glance.
Start the 30-day trial with no card, add your members and tap your first check-in the same day. If you keep a gym attendance register today, this is the same record without the pen, the lost page or the evening you spend copying names.
The check-in list
Open check-in and you see today's members. Search a name, tap once, and the member is marked in. The list shows who is checked in so far, so you can see the floor filling up. A trainer can take the same list during a batch.
Check-in is a tap on the name, by you or your trainer. There is no hardware to buy or maintain.

A check-in takes about as long as writing a name in a register, with less to read back later. Because every tap is saved against the member, you get a month of history without doing a separate entry.
Batches and the check-in filter
Give each batch days, times, a capacity and a trainer, then filter the check-in list by batch so a morning batch sees only its own members. See the batch management page. Trainers can take the list too: see trainer access.
The attendance calendar
Open a member and go to the Attendance tab. A calendar shows the days that member came this month. It answers the question that comes up at renewal time: has this person been coming?
When a member says "I came every day", you can look. When a member says "I could not come this month", you can see that too, and decide whether to extend a few days.
Spot members who stopped coming
Members rarely cancel. They stop coming and then do not renew. The Members screen has a Gone quiet filter with a live count beside it, so you can open it on a Monday and see who has gone missing.
A short message from you, before the plan ends, is often all it takes. To reach several at once, see bulk messaging. The same screen shows who owes and who is about to expire, so you can pick the people to call first.

Register vs app
Owners often ask whether the switch is worth it for a gym that already has a working register. A register is good at one thing, writing a name down, and poor at everything you do afterwards.
A paper register is fine for ten members. It gets slow when you want to ask it a question.
- Who has not come this month? In a register you count pages. In the app you open one filter.
- How many came today? In a register you tally. In the app the list shows it.
- A lost register. On paper the history is gone. In the app it stays with your account.
- A trainer taking attendance. One book at the desk means one person at a time. In the app a trainer can use their own phone.

A Monday routine
Open Members on a Monday morning and tap Gone quiet. Say five names show. You do not need a long script. Send each a short, friendly message: "We have not seen you this week. Everything fine? Your plan runs till [date]." Two of the five will reply with a reason, and one will be back by Wednesday. That is a renewal protected before the reminder stage began.
When you do reach the expiry stage, the fee reminder app takes over, drafts the message and can send it for you. The attendance record and the fee record sit in the same member profile, so you never need to cross-check two books.
Questions and answers
How does check-in work?
You open today's check-in list, search a name and tap once. Check-in is manual, done by you or a trainer.
Does it scan a card or open a door?
No. Check-in is a list you tap, with no scanner or door hardware to buy. For most small and mid-size gyms that is how the day already works, only faster and with a record you can search. If you need this, email [email protected] so we know how many gyms ask.
Can I see how often a member comes?
Yes. Each member record has an Attendance tab with a calendar of the month, so you can see which days they came.
Can a trainer take attendance?
Yes. Trainers get members, workouts and check-in. They do not see money.
Can I find members who stopped coming?
The Members screen has a Gone quiet filter with a live count. It lists members who have stopped showing up, so you can message them before their plan ends.
Is there a free attendance sheet?
You can keep a sheet, but the app already does what the sheet does, with the calendar and the member list in the same place. Your trial is free for 30 days with no card.
