Gym exercise library app: search, filter and add your own

Search a ready exercise library by muscle, equipment and level, see the muscle diagram, add your own exercises with a photo, and use them in routines.

A gym exercise library app should be ready on day one and still let you add the movements your own floor does. Varzish Mate comes with an exercise library you can search and filter by muscle, equipment, level and mechanic, and you can add your own exercises with a photo. Start the 30-day trial with no card and open the library from the club setup.

Find an exercise

Open Exercise library in the club setup. The search box at the top shows how many exercises there are. Under it is a row of muscle pills, starting with All: chest, back, legs, core, shoulders, biceps, triceps and more, down to lats, traps and neck.

  • Search by name. Results refresh as you type.
  • Muscle pills narrow the list to one muscle. Each group heading shows how many exercises are under that muscle.
  • Equipment, Level and Mechanic are three more filters: barbell, dumbbell, cable, machine, body only and other kit; beginner, intermediate or expert; compound or isolation. Clear removes them.

The list loads in pages, and a line showing how many are loaded out of the total, with a Load more button, tells you whether there is more. Each row has a thumbnail, the name and a line like "Barbell · compound".

Open an exercise

Tap an exercise to see it. The photos swipe, and one slide is a front and back muscle diagram with the primary and secondary muscles highlighted. The Overview tab has equipment, level, force, category and the written instructions. The Muscles tab lists primary and secondary muscles. If the exercise has a video link, a Watch the video button opens it.

Add your own exercise

Tap Add. Fill in:

  1. A photo. Required when you create an exercise.
  2. Name.
  3. Primary muscle, and any secondary muscles.
  4. Instructions. Add at least one, then add more steps if you want.
  5. Optional: category, force, equipment, level, mechanic and a video link.

Tap Save exercise. It appears in the library with a Yours tag and shows up in the same filters as the built-in ones. Your exercises belong to your club only.

To change one, open it and tap Edit. To remove one, open it in edit and tap Delete exercise. The app asks first, and tells you that routines that already include it keep their copy.

Use it in a routine

When you build a workout template, Add exercises opens this same library. Tick several, add them to the day in one go, then set the sets, reps, weight, rest and tempo. Your own exercises are in the same list as the built-in ones.

Who this is for, and what it does not do

This suits a gym that writes routines for members and wants a ready list to pick from, with room for its own machines and drills.

You cannot edit or delete the built-in exercises, only your own. An exercise you create has one photo. The library is for building routines: there is no tracking of what a member lifted. Only the owner manages the library; see trainer access.

Questions and answers

How many exercises are in the library?

The search box shows the exact count, for example 'Search N exercises', and the group headings show how many are under each muscle. The library comes ready, so you do not start from a blank list.

How do I find an exercise?

Type a name in the search box, tap a muscle pill, or filter by equipment, level and mechanic. The list updates as you change them, and the count beside each muscle follows.

Can I add exercises of my own?

Yes. Tap Add and give the exercise a name, a photo, at least one instruction and a primary muscle. Equipment, level, secondary muscles and a video link are optional. Your exercises carry a Yours tag.

Can I edit or delete a built-in exercise?

No. You can edit and delete only the exercises you created. The built-in ones are read-only.

If I delete my exercise, what happens to routines that use it?

Routines that already include it keep their copy. The app tells you this before you confirm the delete.

Can a trainer add exercises?

No. The library and the Add button are in the owner's club setup. Trainers work with the routines you have built.
